In case you are interested in getting yourself acquainted with the struggles and movements of Rajasthan initiated by deprived and marginalized communities of Rajasthan this News and Feature service can be of some help to you.
The objective of Vividha features has been reaching out to larger number of people, strengthening of small and medium newspapers of Rajasthan and seeking more space to the news of rural and urban deprived sections of the society.
The struggles and problems of women and other marginalized communities do not get the desired coverage in mainstream regional print media. It is difficult to make a dent on this media. Vividha therefore targeted small and medium newspapers and with this objective a fortnightly Vividh News and Features Service was initiated on 15th July 2001. Each issue has 10 articles/News/Features on the issues of women's empowerment violence, Alternative Development, Write to Food, Employment and Information, Transparency, Accountability, Fighting Corruption and Strengthening Democratic Process. So far 227 issues have been circulated via Email, courier and by post to various small and medium newspapers, NGO's and individuals. It is reaching to 24 out of 33 districts of Rajasthan. Total outreach from October 2009 to September 2010 has been 12 lacs 55 thousands 1 hundred.
Vividha's contributors are from rural journalist's to renowed writers like Bharat Dogra. From Dalit writers like Bhanwar Meghwanshi to women activists like Renuka Pamecha. Vividha Features article has received special mention for prestigious Sarojini Naidu Awards, initiated by The Hunger Project. Three of it's writers including it's editor have been awarded Sarojini Naidu awards for best written and published story in Hindi on the empowerment Panchayati Raj of women.
The only problem of our media subscribers is that they do not have financial resources to subscribe to this service. Their reach out to emails and internet facilities is also very poor. That is why the chances of making this service self sustained is not practical. We have to therefore adopt traditional ways of photocopying and dispatching by courier or by post. Which increases the cost of it's circulation. At the time of financial crises friends like Aruna Roy's Jan Hit Trust and part of Arundhati Roy's prestigious Lenin foundation award money was shared with us.
Vividha Features subscription is Rs. 200/- per year by email (for 24 issues) and Rs. 500/- by post and courier. You can send your subscription in the name of 'Vividha Features Service |
